Symptoms and Signs

People with MS may experience different symptoms over the course of the disease depending on the affected pathways throughout the body.

Sensation and movement:

  • Numbness or weakness in one or more limbs (typically on one side of the body at a time), or the trunk and legs
  • Tingling or pain in parts of the body
  • Electric-shock sensations with certain neck movements, especially when bending the neck forward
  • Tremor, incoordination, or unsteady gait

Vison:

  • Partial or complete loss of vision (one eye at a time)
  • Pain during eye movement
  • Long periods of double vision
  • Blurry vision

Others:

  • Slurred speech
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Bowel, bladder, and sexual dysfunction
